Merge or Delete Members

Merge two memberships that represent the same member, or delete a member that should no longer be part of the group.

When to merge or delete

Both operations permanently change a membership. Both allow you to preview the changes before you confirm, and neither can be undone.

  • If the same person, household, or organization appears twice, for example, a duplicate entry involving a typo: Merge the two memberships.
  • If the duplicate has no financial history, deleting it is simpler.
  • If a member should no longer be part of your group: Delete it. If the household or organization itself should remain, remove only its occupants or delegates.

Merge members

A merge combines two memberships into one. The surviving member keeps the combined payment and contribution history. The absorbed member is archived: it no longer appears in the member list.

Before proceeding, Simpli Dues previews dues standing (before and after), each payment that will move, and which contacts to preserve.

Before you merge

  • If both memberships covered the same dates, both payments remain in financial history. The merge neither adds membership time nor refunds the difference.
  • If the result screen reports that a post-merge check found additional activity, review the member and the activity log.
  • You can correct information in the surviving member per usual after the merge on the member detail page.
Merging a member is not a reversible operation. Review the preview before proceeding.

Delete members

Open the member and select Delete Member. Simpli Dues previews what will happen before confirmation.

  • Without financial history, the member is fully deleted.
  • With financial history, the member is removed from active lists and its contacts are deleted while a deleted-member label is preserved for financial reporting. If an identical member is later recreated, it will have an independent financial history from the deleted member.
  • Reminders, Member Edit Links, and contact info are removed in either case.
Deleting a member is not a reversible operation. Review the preview and prefer to remove only the occupants or delegates when the underlying household or organization should remain.
